My studies
So far, I hold a Masters degree. Will I pursue a doctoral degree? I still don't know, but there is a strong chance. This is my story, told from a formal education perspective.
Formal Education
Master in Systems and Computing Engineering
(Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia, September, 2001)
- Emphasis in Educational Informatics
- Thesis subject: Using the case method in Virtual Learning Environments
Systems and Computing Engineering
(Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia, March, 1999)
- B.Eng. degree in Systems and Computing Engineering
These were the undergraduate and graduate programs I chose. As a matter of fact, I studied Systems Engineering because I couldn't find anything else that caught my interest when I finished high school. As a matter of fact, I kind of chose to keep going with the M.Sc., because I didn't want to face the choice of what to do with my life at the time. (That's very crude, but it's the truth). Lucky me, I have always had this ability to enjoy whatever I do (well, not everything, but that's another story), so I enjoyed both things. However, I almost dropped out of the M.Sc. program, but I finished it so I could become a teacher at Uniandes. The happy ending is that those experiences helped me to be really critical about the things I intend to do now with my life.
Continuing Education
Courses on Transpersonal Psychology
(Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia, July, 2002)
I have always loved psychology. To me, it's fascinating to try and understand the way we think. I took this course in transpersonal psychology while I was teaching OO programming in Uniandes.
Seminar Moving out of the Middle: Moderating Interactive Learning Environments
(The Concord Consortium, MA, USA June 2000)
This was the first course I took on e-Learning moderation. I guess I can say without this course I wouldn't be here right now. It showed us a new and interesting approach to what e-Learning should be. For that reason, I will always be grateful to Sarah and Alvaro (who paid for the course, by the way).
